While Americans prepare to witness a momentous struggle between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, author and journalist Joel B. Pollak says the struggle within the Democratic Party between the “establishment” and the “grassroots” could be just as historic.
Pollak, the senior-editor-at-large at Breitbart News, considers the grassroots “the driving force of the party, [controlling] votes and the media … partly through their dominance of social media.” On the other hand, he says, the establishment controls the donors and the party infrastructure.
All things combined, Pollak admits, “there’s a very uneasy tension inside the Democratic Party.”
Ideologically, the Democratic Party has shifted radically to the left, Pollak notes – and the shift, he says, can be seen in the language of the party’s chosen standard bearer.
“In his own words,” Pollak says of Joe Biden, “he’s talking about revolutionary institutional changes and fundamentally transforming America.”
The conservative journalist says Biden sounds a lot like “Bernie Sanders and his acolytes,” whose rhetoric “dominates the party in terms of its vision of America as a systemically racist society, a fundamentally unjust society, and one in need of radical transformation.”
Pollak argues that the party establishment still has significant power – as indicated by the fact that a non-Democrat like Bernie Sanders couldn’t take over the party in two successive elections.
In contrast, the host of Breitbart News Sunday suggests that the GOP “is more fluid and open – and that’s why [someone like] Donald Trump, who had been a Democrat for much of his life, could come in, compete for votes, and win.”
Throughout Trump’s first term in office, Democrats have conceded many policy positions to the far left, the journalist notes.
“They will not stand up to violence, [nor will they] defend the police,” Pollak tells OneNewsNow. “[And] what the Democrats are proposing is ‘a completely revolutionary transformation of the American system,'” he adds, using Biden’s actual words.
“The [Democratic] establishment is going to try to seize control, to maintain control,” Pollak continues – predicting that if Biden is elected, the country is going to see the conflict continue to play out.
More importantly, he says, Republicans would be denied the majority in the Senate for an unforeseeable amount of time. “Over 11 million illegal aliens would receive citizenship and voting rights, and the Democrats will begin to stack the courts,” he offers by way of explanation.
Should the Democrats gain the power of the presidency, Pollak says, “they will relegate the Republican Party to permanent opposition, and they will inaugurate a one-party era of American governance – in which case, democracy would no longer have any substantive meaning.”
And with that, he determines, “[America] will have experienced the beginnings of a socialist revolution.”
Trump’s success stories aren’t being told
In the senior editor’s opinion, both major party candidates have a very good chance of winning in November. He attributes Biden’s chance of winning to “a country dealing with major challenges, including coronavirus and civil unrest” – and the subsequent “economic dislocation” caused by those two factors.
“Whenever times are this hard,” he says, “it’s natural for people to look for a change in leadership.”
On the other hand, Trump’s chance of winning rests in the fact “he has actually managed these crises very well,” according to the senior editor. “The media will not tell that story, but it happens to be true,” he adds.
The journalist then adds: “Americans broadly share a vision of stability, growth, law and order, innovation.” He contends those are not only keys to restoring the country’s health and economy, but also winning positions for Trump – and unfortunate for Barack Obama’s former VP.
Biden continues to run on the idea that America is allegedly “systemically racist,” but no one has ever won the presidency describing the country as racist, Pollak indicates.
“Even Obama downplayed his radical view of the country to win the election, but Biden is not doing that” – and “that’s a losing posture,” he adds.
“If Trump can maintain his discipline and if he can steer the campaign in the right direction, then I think he can win,” Pollak attests. “The big story the media is missing are the successes of the Trump administration – they are just not reported.” And despite the setbacks caused by the coronavirus, he says, “people are hanging in there because of the Trump administration’s leadership.”
He then adds a final note: “This administration is not Hebert Hoover – [who] is faulted by history, rightly or wrongly, for doing too little when the depression struck America. [But] Trump has been extremely active in doing whatever he can to help Americans – and that’s a story that’s just not being told.”
