Experts warn of Beijing threat, not expecting Biden to do much about it – Mar 17, 2021

The Chinese Communist Party appears to be advancing its plans to overtake the U.S. on the world stage – and whether the Biden administration will offer any pushback is quite questionable.

As reported last week, a document entitled “Interim National Security Strategic Guidance” released earlier this month by President Joe Biden’s national security advisor puts issues like climate change and racial justice ahead of confronting adversaries like China and Russia. One News Now spoke to Clare Lopez, an expert on national security, about the long-term strategic threat continuing to emerge from China.

“Adversary regimes around the world, to include China, but also Iran, Russia, and North Korea, look at the Biden administration and they see weakness,” the founder and president of Lopez Liberty begins. “[Their pugnacious actions are] testing to see how far this new administration is going to let them go.”

National defense analyst Robert Maginnis, senior fellow for national security at Family Research Council, agrees – particularly related to China’s recent activity around the island nation of Taiwan. “They see a weak leader in Mr. Biden, and as a result, they don’t believe [he] would push back against the Chinese should they invade,” he told One News Now.

Lopez continues: “Given the compromised nature of some in the Biden family, certainly with regard to China and the Chinese Community Party [CCP], they may very well feel they can get away with a lot,” she argues.

The former vice president of research and analysis for the Center for Security Policy is thankful that, like Maginnis, many are speaking out about the threat.

For example, Admiral Philip Davidson, naval commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, recently testified in a hearing for the Senate Armed Services Committee, stating: “Taiwan is clearly one of their ambitions …. And I think the threat is manifest this decade, in fact, in the next six years.”

Lopez agrees, noting that China is becoming increasingly aggressive, growing bolder in areas around the South China Sea.

“Taiwan is very much in [the CCP’s] sights and really could be the next target, following what they’ve already destroyed of the Hong Kong democracy movement,” she notes. China considers Taiwan to be one of its provinces and the East Asian country wants to reunite it with the mainland. As a result, the use of force to bring the island under Beijing’s control could be imminent.

Davidson also revealed that the island of Guam “is a target today [and] needs to be defended.” Located in the Western Pacific, and over 2,500 miles off the coast of China, Guam is the home to three military bases.

“While China very well knows that Guam is an American territory,” Lopez says, “it continues to make threats against it [with] a lot of aggressive verbiage coming out of the leadership of the CCP.” Consider the Chinese air force propaganda video depicting an attack on Andersen Air Force Base on Guam.

The naval commander acknowledged he’s “worried that [China is] accelerating their ambitions … to supplant the United States and [America’s] leadership role in the rules-based international order, which they’ve long said that they want to do that by 2050.”

Lopez concurs: “China certainly intends to gain control by 2050,” she tells One News Now.

She refers to Dr. Michael Pillsbury’s book, The Hundred-Year Marathon, noting the period of time between 1949 (when Mao Tse Tung seized control of China) and 2049, when the long-term strategy to supplant the United States is desired to come to fruition.

“China fully expects and believes that it will be the hegemon of the world and displace the United States,” contends the national security expert.

As FRC’s Maginnis recently told One News Now, communist China is one of America’s greatest threats. Lopez encourages others to heed the warnings of the nation’s experts, including Michael Pillsbury, Gordon Chang, Newt Gingrich, and retired Brigadier General Robert Spalding. She commends each one of them for accurately articulating the threat from China for last several years.

But a dire fact remains, says Lopez: “If the Biden administration, the Biden family in particular, is as compromised as allegations against them would have it, it is not likely any of this would make an impression on them, is it?”
